Thread Slop Reduction

Previous | Home | Next

Since I had removed the top clamp, I wanted to try to eliminate the slop in the threads between the bearing adjustment nut and the spindle. I thought about using pipe threading compound, PVC Glue, Blue Loctite, and various other liquids that would somewhat harden and fill the gap-osis. Ultimately, I decided to try Teflon tape. I wrapped the tape with 6 layers of Teflon tape and then screwed the bearing adjustment nut back onto the spindle and adjusted the assembly. As I screwed the nut back on, I could tell that the slop had been eliminated; although it was unknown how long it would stay that way.
